Details Magazine

[edit]

Some knowledgeable researcher should add a section about his years with Details, which he contributed heavily to while working at the Times. Cellmaker (talk) 00:13, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mentioned, but we could use more material. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 18:00, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

L'ordes des Arts et des Lettres

[edit]

I reverted these edits, because I'm not sure why this award should have so much prominence, as opposed to its chronological mention below. Is there some reason to consider it the most important thing about the subject? Please discuss here. Thank you. Chick Bowen 17:19, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No longer in the lede. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 17:59, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Exhibit at New York Historical Society

[edit]

Presuming it is the same Bill Cunningham, there is an exhibit running March - June 2014: http://www.nyhistory.org/node/104573 Even just the web page has some information that could be added here, but I'm not 100% sure it is the same guy. The catalog would presumably have even more information. Benthatsme (talk) 05:27, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Covered now. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 17:58, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Battle of Versailles

[edit]

The later exhibit of these early Versailles photos is the first hint that he covered runway shows. That fact needs be incorporated in his early years. He seems to be photographing this sort of traditional fashion show before he goes street and captures Garbo. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 17:58, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There's mention of the runway shows in the documentary film, and in a few of the articles. I think that it was part of his job at the Times to go to Paris to see the couture shows. At one point in the film he is having trouble getting into the show, and someone comes over to the person controlling attendance and says "this is the most important person here", and ushers him backstage.
Runway mentions:
So, I think it would be safe to add to the article something like "He regularly covered New York and Paris runway shows for The Tribune and New York Times." Also, he seems to have written the article above, which qualifies him for the job title "journalist", and not just 'photojournalist', I would think...HappyValleyEditor (talk) 19:08, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
